Crooks Family from Belfast

Post by mercat » 01 Apr 2006, 11:06

Hi,

Looking for any info re Crooks family in Belfast, Antrim.

Details are as follows:

William John Crooks (abt 1850) (Flax dresser) (son of William & Anna (nee Williamson) married Ann Smyth (b.1850) (daughter of Robert Smith & Ann Bell) on 20 Jan 1871 at Albert St Church. They immigrated to NZ in 1875 with their son Thomas (b.1874). William's two sisters Margaret and Matilda also later immigrated. At one point the family were living at 152 Conway St in Shankill.

Many thanks

Christopher

Hi Chris,

Thank you for that information - I will follow it up further. The Crooks family I mention in my original post lived in Conway Street, Shankill, Belfast before leaving to come to NZ.

Cheers,

Hi Mercat,

The following people named Crooks are listed in the 1880 Belfast and Ulster directory which is on the Lennon Wylie website ...

B., engine driver, 40 Clyde Street
George, engine driver, 63 Woodstock Road
Henry, book keeper, 6 Empress Buildings

There was only one Crooks listing in the 1861 directory ...
