Dougall McFaul (McFall) died in Port Colborne, Canada 1878

Post by bhenry » 19 May 2008, 15:51

I am looking for any information on the Dougall McFaul (McFall) who lived in Port Colborne, Ontario from at least 1851 until his death. Dougall was born in Co. Antrim about 1822 and worked as a shoemaker in Canada. He died in January 1878 in Port Colborne.

His wife Cecelia Quinn was also born in Ireland about 1829. Her mother's name was Bridget. Cecelia continued to live in Port Colborne until at least 1891. By 1900 she was living in Buffalo with her son Alexander.

Dougall and Cecelia had at least 15 children including one or more sets of twins.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Christopher

Hi bhenry,

The Christian names of the children of Cecelia and Dougall might help to establish whether there are people with identical names listed in Griffith's Primary Valuations. They may be related to your ancestors.

Hi there,

I'm not a relation but have been conducting research into all the families of Rathlin Island for many years now.

Dougall was born on Rathlin about 1822, son of Daniel and Mary A. Anderson, who had another 4 children that I've found.

You have a few extra children for Dougal and Cecilia

Daniel B - born about 1849 in Canada (11 in 1861)
(John - born abt 1852 9 in 1861)
Mary Cecelia - born abt 1854, Port Colborne, Welland County, Ontario, Canada
Edward born abt 1856 (died before 1864)
Alexander James - born about 1858 in Ontario, Canada (not in 1861 census 10 in 1871)
Catherine - born May 8 1859 , Port Colborne, Welland County, Ontario, Canada (not in 1861 census not found death record)
James - born Jan. 16 1861 , Port Colborne...
Edward - born June 2 1863 , Port Colborne...
Francis and Thomas J. (twins) - born April 15 1866, Port Colborne... (no sign of Francis in 1871)
William M. - born June 1 1867 , Port Colborne... no sign of in 1871
Cecelia and Joseph (twins) - born Nov. 4 1869, Port Colborne... no sign of in 1871
SEE ABOVE John D. born abt 1852 ? (lived in Chicago as adult)
Two additional children of unknown sex (no sign in 1881 no death records found)

I'd love to find out where you fit into the picture and have very recently been in touch with a couple of your distant cousins , Jim Falk and Gary Aikin.

You may be interested in one of my websites Rathlin-Island.info You'll find a lot of info on all these families.

Regards,

Andy

Hello Andy,

Thanks for your reply. The family you write about seems to be the same one I am researching. My husband, Pat is Gary Aikin's second cousin. We have been sharing information on our families for quite some time. Pat and Gary share the same great grandfather (John Francis Sheedy). Pat's great grandmother is Mary Cecelia McFall (McFaul) and Dougall McFall is his great great grandfather.
I have looked at your website with great interest but so far have not been able to view the Rathlan trees. I am especially interested at this time since we are planning a trip to Ireland next year and am hoping to learn more about the family's Irish ancestors. I have no experience researching in Ireland and could use any help you might be kind enough to give me.
We live in Canada.

Betty

Hi Betty,

Good to hear from you, Gary has mentioned you.

At present the Rathlin website requires two logons, one for the main site then another for Rathln Trees.

The old site was hacked constantly, and so, I beefed up the security on this new one. I realise it's a pain to have to log on twice but it's either that or a lot of the content becomes corrupted.

Regards,

Andy
