Hi Anybody out there,
I was born in larne and would like to make contact with some of my relatives as I am trying to compile a family tree. My ancestors were from around larne kilwaughter areas. Have got back to the year 1774 and will reimburse them any expense they incur, thank you for all your time.

the many happy days I spent living in Mill Street.

Hi there,
Hope this finds you well. Maybe you can help me hunt down some of my
relations as I am trying to compile my family tree. Born in Larne, but
lived in Millbrook for about six years before moving to Larne. Came to
Australia in 1959, returned for a trip in 1990 where my wife wanted to
stay. She fell in love with the people there and wants to live there. My
children would like to hear from anyone who may have remembered me and
the many happy days I spent living in Mill Street. My brothers contracted
the building of Craigy Hill and Antiville, And I served my time as a
bricklayer there. There must be somebody who will remember me. My mates
were, Jim moore, Charlie Graham and Artie McCormick and we all lived in
Mill Street, love to hear from anyone.
Kindest Regards, Robert ( Bobby ) Cooke.

Larne Times Edition 1951

Post by Margaret » 24 Nov 2004, 19:30

Hi Robert found this piece in the Larne History corner section from 1951

Sergeant Daniel Cooke of Rose Cottage, Carnduff, had been awarded the Military Medal for Gallantry in Korea. An army veteran of 21 years service he had been with a column which sustained an ambush and heavy fire. Sergeant Cooke had rallied his platoon and led them forward after they had been scattered by heavy fire. He also ensured that the wounded were carried of, as heavy fire continued to be directed at his men. His citation read; "Sergeant Cookes behaviour throughout this action was of the highest order, and his courage and coolness were an inspiration to his company." Originally from Millbrook, he had three brothers and a sister all of whom served in the second World War, and he was married with an eleven year old son. Larne Borough Council sent a letter congadulateing the Larne Officer on his award.

Quite by accident I came across your post on the Irish Genealogy site. Again by coincidence I had found a reference in a list of Gravestone inscriptions in Glynn (small village 2 miles South of Larne) ...

"John Cook died 1820 AE 82"

If you actually have any information on this individual, I would be interested for the reason that he shares a headstone/grave with Alexander Burges / Margirie Wills, who may be relatives of mine and I would be interested to know what the relationship was.

REGARDS
K Wills
