ÔÇÿALL IRELAND SOURCESÔÇÖ NEWSLETTER
A Monthly Newsletter: Editor: Terry Eakin, 334 Burns Bay Road, LANE COVE, NSW 2066 Contact E-mail address: tea04055@bigpond.net.au
ISSN 1443-5888 Volume 7, No. 10, October 2005.

Introduction: ÔÇÿAll Ireland SourcesÔÇÖ is a monthly newsletter distributed free by E-mail to Family History Societies and interested researchers near the end of each month. Distribution by Australia Post each three months (three issues) costs $6.00 annually within Australia. The aim is to bring items of interest regarding Irish record sources to the Australian genealogist. The editor would appreciate being made aware of records relating to the Irish, particularly those held in Australia or new in the LDS Family History Library. Back copies available free for downloading from www.sag.org.au. Note new email address.
School Registers in the LDS FHL Salt Lake City: I have prepared a database in Microsoft Access listing Irish schools in the LDS FHL. The following data is recorded: School, County, Parish, Start Year, Finish Year, PRONI reference (if available), LDS Film Number and Item Number (if applicable) and Explanatory Comments. Note that most film rolls without item numbers are complete films relative to that school only and not with other schools or mixed with other records on that particular film. There is a good run of Belfast City, Shankill parish, County Antrim and Belfast City, Knockbreda parish, County Down schools as well as some from almost every county in Ireland.
I will include a printed copy for each of those who subscribe by mail (15 pages A4 printed in landscape) with the December newsletter and 2005 Table of Contents for Volume 7, issues 1-12. A PDF version of the file is also available for download from the SAG web site (see above). Should any reader order in one of these films, I can supply an Excel or Access pro-forma file for you to record your information in. This will be provided free if you zip and email me (or post a burnt CD ROM) after you have recorded and entered the data. Illegible writing of surname and christian name or names, can easily be confirmed from the A-Z index of pupilsÔÇÖ names and page numbers at the front of each admission register. The data flow is in the same order as entered in the admission registers. The films are easy to read with good legible writing generally. Sometimes loose pages are filmed out of numerical order but each register page is clearly numbered.
If interested, email Terry Eakin at tea04055@bigpond.net.au for the pro-forma blank for schools.
Memorials of the Dead by the late Brian J, Cantwell (1970-1990) soon to be published by Eneclann is made up of 11 bound volumes of manuscripts and no page numbers in each manuscript but they are arranged in A-Z ascending order within each manuscript. Each volume has an index of names, a list of graveyards and churches and a list of occupations and trades displayed followed by the manuscript. Most have an introduction and comments regarding each site on the front page of each manuscript. Briefly these were set out as:
County Volume Manuscript Nos. County Volume Manuscript Nos.
Wicklow I 1 - 37
Wicklow II 38-77
Wicklow III 78-117
Wicklow IV 118-159
Wexford V 160-219
Wexford VI 220-275

Wexford VII 276-347
Wexford VIII 348-385
Wexford IX 386-426
WEX & WIC X 427-448 plus Part I pps 1-449 and Part II pps 450-594
Dublin South XI Ms 1-75 with maps, etc.

I look forward to the release of these records on CD ROM by Eneclann. The above might help with locating your Wexford and Wicklow ancestors but the transcriptions are generally up to 1880 as a cut off point but some were transcribed to 1900 and some completely transcribed if closed to new interments.
