Hello olderwomaninpurple,

What denomination were the McGunnigle family?

You'll probably have to look at church records as the first Civil registrations in Ireland were non Catholic marriages introduced in 1845. Civil registration for all other marriages as well as births and deaths was not introduced in Ireland until 1864.

I believe they were Catholic. I cannot get anywhere with records. I was even Ireland in 2005 and went to PRONI in Belfast, they were less than helpful. The people I'm looking for were from Ballymena circa 1830 or so. I would have thought there might be some school records. I checked with the Catholic church in Ballymena...nothing there.
Thanks for the reply.
