Belfast Gasworks

Post by Christopher » 11 Apr 2009, 00:41

The Belfast Gasworks, built on land that at one time was Cromack Wood, provided power to the city for more than one hundred and fifty years. Work began on a gas making industry in 1822, on a site near Cromac dock, on ground owned by the Marquis of Donegall. It was at the centre of the city's Victorian Industrial Revolution, being one of the major employers and offering work for engineers, fitters and stokers. The Gasworks closed in 1988.
