G. 4 OÔÇÖNEILL Erected by John and Patrick OÔÇÖNeill of Charleston in America to the memory of their mother Catherine OÔÇÖNeill who departed this life March the 26th 1812 age 49 years. Li. kewise her two sons Edward and Francis.
G. 5 MCGREGOR Erected by John McGregor. In memory of his father William McGregor who died on the 14th of January 1890 aged 65 years old also his brother Archy who died on the 18 of June 1892 aged 29
years also his mother Jane McGregor who died on the 14 of June 1895 aged 66 years also his brother William who died in America on the 3 of July 1887 aged 33 years also his son John who died on the 30 June 1895

G. 24 MCDONNELL The grave of Charles third son of the late John McDonnell of Ballinlig Glenariff who departed this life aged 69 years also his 3 sons James, Randal and John also his wife Sarah who died the 4th March 1866 aged 56 years.

A physican whose great abilities & greater benevolence made him venerated in the Glens of Antrim where he was born & in Belfast where he died AD 1845 in his 82nd year. In memory of Eliza, daughter of John Clarke Esq. of Belfast and wife of the said James McDonnell; she died AD 1798 also of Penelope, daughter of James Montgomery Esq. of Larne & second wife of the said James McDonnell, she died AD 1851 also in the memory of Michael, father of the said James & of Alexander, Father of Michael & of Coll father of Alexander & son of Major Gen Sir Alexander McColl McDonnell, Knight of the field, whose other son Captain Archibald McDonnell likewise rests in this churchyard. G. 26 MCDONNELL, SCHOOLIN Erected by Patrick McDonnell of the Cairns to the memory of his wife Betty Schoolin who departed this life September 1835 aged 32 years.

G. 34 MACAULEY, ACHESON, HIGGINSON ISSUE OF Alix Macauley and L. H. Acheson Alexander born 30th January 1768 Archibald Major Capt 44th Regt died aged 74 and here buried. Hugh Captain of an Indian Chinese ship foundered with him at sea. Mary wife of Major Jas Higginson she is here buried. And Louise her sons wife. George Captain 17th Foot and here buried. He married Jan daughter of George Hill Larne. They left four daughters and one son. Arthur John Lieu 68th Regt died at sea aged 24. Harriet wife of Rev R. S. Dobbs They are here buried & three children. Anne died Jany 30th 1870 aged 86, Alex Macauley Junr only son of George and Jane. Born 14th February 1819. He married Maria Martin. They had one son Alex born 22 Augt 1849 to the great afflication of his Survivors. He died of consumption 4th Decr 1849. He is buried in the north east corner. His eldest uncle Revd Alexr Macauley who survived him died on the 8th Feby 1855 aged 87. G. 35 MACAULEY, ACHESON BART In the Scotch Army of Charles 1st in Ulster was Major Alexr Macauley from Ardincaple Dumbarton Shire. He married Alice Stewart of Ballintoy. They had one son Alexander who married Mildred Daughter of Revd Adam Reid. They had one son Alexr Macauley Kings counsel & Member of the House of Commons. He married Margaret daughter of Hugh Boyd of Ballycastle. Their eldest son Alexander was High Sheriff of Co. Antrim for 1766. He married Julia Henrietta daughter of Sir Archd Acheson Bart (afterwards Vist Gosford). He died 18th June 1817. She died 28th May 1829. Both in their 83rd year. And here buried. Alexander Macauley son of the late Alexander Macauley and Maria Martin who died 19th November 1880 aged 32 years.
G. 36 MCARTHUR, ROFS Here lies the remains of the Rev. John McArthur conspicuious for universal benevolence unstained integrity and private worth. He departed this life on 27th Feby 1716 aged 65 years also Margaret Rofs his wife who died Oct 16 1761 aged 75 years also their son the Rev. Dennis McArthur. He departed this life on the 11th of January 1796 in the 82nd year of his age also his M.. Elizabeth McArthur who died 15th Feb 1796 aged 77 years -------------- disjoin him Christ hath joined in love -------------- to death and death to life above in heavens happier place frail things despise. Live well in future life to gain the prize. This monument is erected by M. McArthur widow of the late Col McArthur, son to the Rev John McArthur as a memorial of her affection and their virtue. March 1st 1797. G. 37 CHARD Erected by Henry Chard in memory of his mother Sarah Ann Chard who departed this life 29th May 1858 aged 38 years. Also her sons Edward who died 7th May 1852 aged 1 year & 3 months. Benjamin who died 3rd July 1859 aged 4 years & 9 months. BLESSED ARE THE DEAD WHO DIE IN THE LORD.

G. 38 DELARGY Here lieth the body of Patrick Delargy late of Buoynagh who departed this life Anadomine aged 71 years, also his sons John died 1852 aged 29 years and on 5th April 1846 Ann wife of Patrick Delargy aged 79 years. Also two infant children of James Delargy Cushendall. G. 39 QUIN The stone erected by Bernard Quin. Here lieth the body of his son Arthur Quin who departed this life Janu the 20th 1822 aged 36 years.

Daniel his son died in May 1690 aged 94 years. Archibald son of Daniel Nov 1735 AE 98. John son of Archibald 1795 AE 92. Francis son of John Sept 1817 AE 65. Danil brother of Francis April 1832 AE 35 years. G. 65 MULVENNA Here lieth the remains of Micheal Mulvenna who departed this life April the 5th 1806 aged 71 years. G. 66 MCELROY In loving memory of Hugh McElroy died 20th Sept 1954 also his wife Elizabeth died 24th May 1960 and his children James and Joesph died in infancy. Their son Hugh died 2nd June 1981
G. 67 No inscription G. 69 No inscription G. 68 STEWART, MCCAMBRIDGE Sacred to the memory of James Stewart of Mullarts who departed this life 3rd Feb 1862 aged 85 years. His oldest son William Stewart who lost his life on board the Clarendon West Indiaman in Chale Bay Isle of Wight in the 11th Oct 1836 aged 20 years. His remains are interred in Chale Church yard and James Stewart who died of Scarlatrina on his passage to Australia 25th October 1852 aged 16 years. And Alexr Stewart who died in infancy. Ann Stewart died 11th February 1876. Underneath the same stone are deposited the remains of Frances oldest daughter of Arch. McCambridge and wife of James Stewart who departed this life 14th January 1852 aged 59 also their children Ann died 11th Feb 1876, Rose died 18th June 1880, Fanny died 10th Oct 1897, Margaret died 20th May 1899, Archy died 11th June 1905.
G. 70 FIFE Here lieth the body of Alex Fife who died Decr the 25th 1776 aged 59 years. Done by order of his son John Fife. G. 71 Fallen stone

Hi,

Thanks for posting this. Can I just check: is this the CoI churchyard in the town (current church building dating from about 1830) or the grounds of the ruined church outside the town (aka Old Layde)?
